Many people who bought games like LittleBigPlanet and Guitar Hero World Tour were excited by the possibilities of user created content and being able to share it amongst the gaming community. Whether it be customized levels, characters and songs, gamers were hard at work to show off their skills. Many gamers even went to the trouble of creating themes from classic games/titles/songs and everything seemed to be okay…until recently. Media Molecule and Activision seemed to have deleted any and all content that would infringe on other copyrighted intellectual property (IP). Unfortunately, some of the painstaking work put forth to create these themes were basically wasted. So many of the custom Super Mario Brother levels on LBP have been erased as well as theme songs to classic NES games like Zelda were wiped out from the GHWT servers.
It’s unfortunate that all these user created content was removed without warning and that they couldn’t at least been kept since no profit is being made. Perhaps MM and Activision could somehow gain some licensing for the IP for cash and in the end everybody wins.
