Well, it was mentioned awhile back that Nintendo was preparing to release a new incarnation of their DS portable console (after the DS Lite). However, there has not been any official announcements by Nintendo nor has there been indication by them to create a new version of the DS. Recently, a report from Nikkei states that a new DS console is to be release within the next year and that it’ll sport many improvements such as a slimmer console, built in digital camera, mp3 playback capability and improved wifi. The article also mentions that the new DS will cost 20,000 Yen ($189 USD) or less!

Although all this sounds amazing, I’m not going to hold my breath because like I said, we’ve heard rumours like this before and nothing materialized. Plus it wouldn’t really make sense to release a brand new version of the console when DS Lites are still flying off the shelf. Though I’m skeptical about this, I’m also hoping that my instincts are also false.
