Prior to the advent of the Internet, I used spend most of my time ouside and playing sports or riding my bicycle. But with people increasingly being “connected”, whether it be via your desktop, laptop, PDA or phone, we cannot help but become dependent to technology and have it as part of our daily routine. This week I’ve learned first hand how dependent I am to Internet because my broadband connection was interrupted (due to technical difficulties from ISP). I realized that most of my time at home is spent in front of my PC and I’m always doing something online. With the absense of the net, I honestly didn’t know what to do. I did a little reading and watched some television, but in the end, I started to surf on my iPhone and did that for a few hours. I don’t what it is, but not having information available at my fingertips, just feels awkward. Perhaps it’s best described as withdrawl symptoms. I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I think that I couldn’t adequately function without the Internet. People might think I’m crazy, but I’m willing to bet that the lives if others are just as integrated to the web as I (if not more so). I think it’s gotten to the point where I wonder how we got along without the Internet in the first place. Anyhow, it’s time for me to recharge my iPhone again until my next Internet session (which will probably be in the next hour…lol).
