So today was day two of the Fan Expo Convention and we ran a little late because a friend of mine had sustained a foot injury prior to the convention and had a hard time walking the entire day. When we got to Convention Center, it definitely seemed busier than the first day…probably because it was the start of the weekend and people were free to come without having to go to work.
There wasn’t really anything that interested me in particular in terms of workshops or panels…so I decided to walk around the main lobby and take pictures of many of the attendees who were wearing costumes. It is always interesting to me to see so many creative and devoted individuals create such beautiful and elaborate costumes. I am definitely impressed by the amount of details and amount of accuracy to the movies/shows/games they portray.
As for things to buy, I decided to look for some graphic novels I could buy to read on my commute to work. Since the movie is expected to be released early next year, my first choice was to get the Watchmen Graphic Novel by Alan Moore and then the next book I bought was Kingdom Come by Alex Ross since the artwork and storyline are supposedly superb.
I also spent more time in the gaming section and watched as players competed in Counterstrike and Gears of War tournaments. It’s pretty exciting to watch professional gamers battling other teams utilizing strategies and tactics. Microsoft also set up a mini-preview of the upcoming Gears of War 2 game by Epic The graphics and gameplay definitely looked superb and I’m sure many gamers are anxious to get their hands on this game this coming fall.
There were definitely large line-ups when it came to celebrities signing autographs for fans. I think Henry Winkler, Kate Mulgrew and Brent Spiner again drew the largest crowds. Thankfully, I snapped a few pictures of each celeb before we were told to clear the way. Nathan and his wife ended off by watching the screening of the Gotham Knights cartoon while me and the others just walked around and checked out the booths before leaving the convention for the day. Tomorrow is the last day and hopefully we’ll find some great deals along the way.
