Usually the bane of the videogame industry has been the issue of piracy. Though companies have taken measures to ensure security of their intellectual property, many ingenious hackers find ways to circumvent their efforts. It’s widely assumed that eventually all gaming systems will get hacked and individuals will find ways to pirate games…given enough time. For the longest time, it has been thought that pirating games for the PS3 would be difficult and prohibitive since Blu-Ray discs and copiers are still expensive to purchase and the amount of data for each game are quite a bit larger than DVD games.
Recently, a hacker by the name of StreetSkaterFU has created a video and confirmed running a PS3 game (Warhawk) back-up on the harddrive. Take a look:
However, the above trick seems to only work with a select number of older games like Warhawk, Motorstorm and Call of Duty 3. Though many will say that the above accomplisment doesn’t amount to much, it will surely gain the attention of the rest of the hacker community and perhaps it’ll only be a matter of time before the PS3 becomes another victim of piracy.
