Have you ever watched a movie at the theatre and imagine what it would be like to play video games on it? Well, Canadians will have to wonder no longer. Starting this Friday, Cineplex Odeon is planning to rent out downtime at its theatres to allow gamers to play their XBox 360 games on their screens! People will be able to book 2-hour sessions at 29 theatres across Canada for $179 CAD (plus taxes).
Up to 12 people are allowed into a session and players can either play their own games or select from a preset library. Most of the sessions will be during the morning hours when it’s less busiest, however evening sessions will most likely become available once school starts and all the summer blockbusters are finished. This is definitely an interesting idea set-up by Cineplex Odeon and hopefully this program will be popular enough to include more theatres, a more flexible schedule and a larger variety of games/consoles. I can just imagine playing games like Rockband or Halo on a 50′ screen with digital surround sound. Perhaps I should check to see if it’s happening at my local theatre!
