Since the release of the Wii balance board here in North America, it’s seen a great deal of interest amongst many Nintendo Wii owners (including myself), perhaps because we enjoy the unique method to interact with games or maybe because we all need the exercise. With the Wii balance board, it was inevitable that some creative individuals would find other uses for the board that it wasn’t initially intended for. Two individuals (Simon and Mattieu) from the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (GmbH) have created a video demonstrating the use of the balance board on applications such as Google Earth and World of Warcraft. From the way they are controlling the board, I think it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo comes with some kind of skateboarding/surfing game. I wouldn’t be surprised if a new Tony Hawk game for the Wii is underway as we speak? Anyhow, I hope to see more creative uses for the balance board in the future.
