So having grown up in the 80’s, I remember watching action shows like A-Team, Airwolf & Nightrider. But I would definitely say that one of my all-time favourites was watching the MacGyver series. What was interesting on the show was that MacGyver made science interesting. He also demonstrated that with some rudimentary materials and some scientific knowhow, you can solve pretty much any problem. It was recently mentioned by MacGyver creator, Lee David Zlotoff at the Maker Faire 2008 that a big budget theatrical release of MacGyver was definitely in the works!
With the show being more than 10-15 years old, it’ll probably be difficult to cast many of the original characters. However, no matter who else they cast on the movie, many original fans (including myself) feel that the movie MUST have Richard Dean Anderson reprise his role as MacGyver. Just like how Harrison Ford has recent come back to play Indiana Jones in his 60’s, it’s not inconceivable that RDA can play Mac on the silverscreen. Though they could pass the torch to another actor…it just doesn’t feel right without RDA.
Anyhow, even though Mr. Zlotoff revealed the news today, I won’t be holding my breath until there is an official release date for the movie, or else it’ll be one of those projects that were never meant to be.
