You’ve probably seen those epic battle scenes from Hollywood movies such as Saving Private Ryan. However, I’d bet you’d never think that 3 people could recreate a similar scene on a very tiny budget. Enter three CGI effects artists from the BBC Timewatch series. Recently, the 3 CGI artists (Neil Wilson, Steve Flynn and Colin Thornton) were in charge of recreating D-Day on the Timewatch series, “Richard Hammond presents Bloody Omaha”. For those who don’t know, Omaha Beach was the codename for the key landing points of the Allied invasion of German-occupied Normandy, France on June 6, 1944, during World War II. With 3 people, a car full of old uniforms/weapons, cameras, green screens, small explosions and special effects, this is the end result:

I was completely amazed on how realistic and professional the whole sequence looked. It sometimes makes you think that with a little money and some ingenuity, the visuals of a small budget film can rival those of multi-million dollar movies. A blog which documents the exploits of the production team can be found here.
