Previously I mentioned here about cool applications and uses for the wiimote. A guy by the name of Johnny Lee (no relation) came up with a neat application for the Nintendo Wiimote called “Head tracking”. Essentially, it allows the wiimote to track the movement and location of the head and thus allows you to view images in a different perspective in a virtual 3 dimensional space. Johnny shows and explains this concept very well in this video:
As you can see and imagine, this simple demonstration can create so many possiblities and revolutionize the way we game today and in the future. Picture using head tracking within a First Person Shooter (FPS) environment? Not only can you battle with other users, but you can physically interact with the game by tracking your head movement and perspective. If you are interested in trying this out and other Johnny Lee demonstrations, check out his website here. At this point in time, I think the gaming industry has definitey plateaued when it comes innovation in the gaming experience. Hopefully with creative minds like Johnny Lee, perhaps we may see a new evolution in gaming? I hope industry giants like Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony are taking notice.
