These days it seems as though you can do practically anything and everything on your cellphone. Whether it be to watch movies, listen to music, surf the net, take pictures or God forbid, to actually call people. The Japanese company, Softbank is adding the function of taking classes via your cellphone! The online school (aptly named Cyber University), has started offering a mobile course called “The Mystery of the Pyramids”, which provides streaming Powerpoint presentations on the subject. Though only a single course is currently offered, Sakuji Yoshimura, head of Cyber University is hoping that this technology will help those with disabilities to have access to higher education.
Though the this kind of technology sounds neat, I don’t really see the reasoning behind having mobile courses. I’m pretty sure that having regular online courses via the PC would suffice and having only a cellphone would create many limitations (small screen, slower processing power, limited applications, etc.). But I guess it would be neat going to class virtually anywhere you want, even in the can! =)
