First I wanted to wish all our friends from the US a Happy Thanksgiving and best of luck on the biggest shopping day of the year in America: Black Friday! Since I live in Canada, most of the people I talk to have never actually heard of Black Friday before. To put it simply, it’s the day after Thanksgiving in the United States and it signals as the unofficial beginning of the Christmas shopping season. It’s when retailers hold huge sells to attract customers and hopefully turn a profit, moving from the “red” to the “black” (hence the term “Black Friday”).

Anyhow, because of the surging value of the Canadian dollar against the US Greenback, swarms of people have been heading south of the border in search of bargains. I’ve heard news of long line-ups at the border and even coupons being handed out to Canadian tourists (by US retailers) to encourage more cross-border shopping. I don’t know about you guys, but if it’s anything like Boxing Day here in Canada, all the best deals are gone unless you are the first people in line.

While parusing some of the deals on Bestbuy, Toys R’ Us, Staples, and Walmart, I could definitely see that the only things worth getting are the doorcrashers…which were only available early this morning. To see a list of things that were worth getting, check out this list on Engadget.com. Anyhow, I think I should also get cracking on the Christmas shopping myself…oh how I look forward to that!! .
