I’ve been checking out any new upcoming series to watch since quite a few of the series I watch like, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and School Days have ended. I’ve started to hear a lot of clamour and anticipation over this new anime series called, Clannad. The story centres around the life of Tomoya Okazaki, a highschool boy who is labelled a “delinquent” since he defies authority. His life turned for the worse after his mother died from a car accident when he was young and he had been living with his father. One night, he and his father got into a heated argument and Tomoya gets injured. Since then, Tomoya’s father has become kinder to him but they become more estranged from one another.

Tomoya continues to see the world as a desolate place in his dreams, devoid of people except for a single girl which he never sees. He finds out that the girl has special powers of transmuting junk to other things and creates a new body for him in the dream world. He later becomes reborn in the dreamworld and he becomes more enthralled in it. Clannad actually means “family” or “clan” in Irish and it supposely centres around this theme. The anime is produced by Japanese software company, Key, who are the same makers as successful titles such as Kanon and Air (which I personally recommend people to watch).

If Clannad turns out as good as Kanon and Air, I’ll definitely give it try. Clannad is set to be released on television on October, 4th, 2007…check it out!
