Well, now that we are into the fall season in North America, the leaves are changing colour, the temperature gets cooler, the days get shorter but most importantly, it’s time for the new fall television schedule! That means that all your favourite shows will have their season premiere(s) or also brand new shows make their debut.
I’m sure there are plenty of shows to choose within the entire fall lineup, but the key is to choose and pick the shows in which you feel you’ll enjoy the most. Especially for those with busy schedules, it’s highly unlikely you’ll be able to watch everything (though you could “TiVo” the shows you missed and watch it later on). I tend to watch the shows my friends recommend since we usually have similar tastes and it gives us something to talk about when we get-together.
So from the shows coming out, some of the shows I’m looking forward to are (in no particular order):
1) Heroes - The highly popular show by Tim Kring which is part comic book, part drama. It basically talks about what would happen if normal everyday people were to realize they had super powers. Would they be heroic and save the world? or would they be evil and corrupt and try to dominate it? The best part of it is the writing and cliffhangers at the end of each episode…which keeps you coming back for more. In this season, they’ll introduce new characters with new powers and the viewers will decide who will be part of the main cast. Interesting indeed! =)
2) House - The show starring award winning actor Hugh Laurie, as Dr. Greg House, a maverick genius diagnostician who leads a team of young doctors in solving the most puzzling symptoms, illnesses and diseases which plague the patients on each episode. What really makes the show interesting in my eyes are the methods in which they diagnose patients and Dr. House’s immature personality. I find his conversations to be funny especially with his subordinates. His methods are usually pretty radical and unorthodox, but he usually finds a way to cure the patient, when all other hope fails. Brilliant show!
3) Avatar: The Last Airbender - At long last the show is on it’s 3rd season. I was kinda getting worried that it might not happen since there really wasn’t much news after the airing of the 2nd season. Anyhow, the Avatar is a powerful wizard who has mastery over the 4 elements (air, water, earth, fire) and is said to be able to restore peace within the world. However, when the Avatar was needed, he vanished. After a 100 years, the world has virtually been conquered by the fire nation and it’s up to the young Avatar named Aang, to save the world from chaos. Though the show is an animated cartoon by Nickelodean, it is actually an amazing, well thoughout story with a lot of Asian cultural influences. Definitely worth seeing!
4) Battlestar Galactica - Mankind has been devastated by the attacks of the Cylons (cyborgs) and now the remaining indivduals of the human race are set out in search of Earth or face total annhilation at the hands of the Cylons. Not since Star Trek have I been really drawn into a Sci-Fi television show and I’ve been enthralled by the storyline, with all it’s surprise twists and turns and being able to see mankind try to survive at the face of extinction. I’m definitely hooked, however, it’s sad to realize that this season (the 4th) will be the final season for the show. I appreciate the fact that although it is kind of short, it’s best to keep the show short and sweet rather than drag it on and alienate it’s fans. A definite good show for Sci-Fi fans.
5) South Park - The cutesy kids from South Park Colorado by the comedy geniuses, Matt Parker and Trey Stone has been immensely funny since they seem to push the boundary of what things they can say and do on television. Again there are other cartoons like The Simpsons and Family Guy which are also hilarious, but South Park seems to pave the way for vulgarity and potty humour which is an acquired taste for some. My favourite character has to be Eric Cartman since he’s the most vulgar and lewd out of the bunch…he basically says outloud what most people only think in their heads. I guess having cartoon 4th graders saying the stuff puts the show under the radar of censors? who knows…but still a funny show to watch!
Well, those are the 5 shows I’m particularly looking forward to this season..although there are some reality shows I like watching, that’s an entirely different list altogether. Well, hope you all enjoy the upcoming season..because it’ll definitely be a good one!
