At the heels of the it’s recent theatrical release, Electronic Arts (EA) will be releasing a brand new Simpsons game which has the same feel as Grand Theft Auto by Rockstar Games. Indeed, earlier this year, EA parodied the countdown timer for the release of Grand Theft Auto IV and with the letters “XXII” on their page (which was referring to the fact that this would be the 22nd video game released for the Simpsons franchise).
The official site featured the name of the game as “Grand Theft Scratchy: Blood Island”, which features Marge Simpson trying to Boycott the game. The other preview shows another game called “Medal of Homer”, a parody to Medal of Honour. In this game, it looks as though you play either Bart or Homer in this “mini-game”. Other parodies include Katamari Damacy, Shadow of the Colossus and God of War.
Also at the end of the trailer, it was announced that “The Simpsons Game” will be, “Coming this fall, to every platform EVER made”. Again, this was to poke fun at the fact that some games are usually brought to all video game platforms in order to make a higher profit, but usually at the expense of quality. So what happened was that some of the packages had logos of obsolete platforms like ColecoVision, Atari Jaguar, Commodore VIC-20, TurboGrafx-16, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Amiga, Game Boy Advance and Gamecube. However, they had to be removed since fans actually thought the statement was real.
Well, from the previews alone, the game really does look interesting and funny, especially with all the parodies, however, I’m thinking that the novelty will probably wear off after a single play through. So, I’ll probably check out the reviews when the game actually comes out and probably give it a rent to try it out. The game is expected to release this November.
