So like millions of other people in the world, I have a Nintendo Wii system and I was crazy enough to stay up all-night last November to purchase it when it was first released. There were a couple of fun games that have come out since then, however, most Wii fans are anticipating the releases of the big First-party franchise titles, which are the cornerstone of Nintendo. I’m talking the Mario, Zelda and Metroid games which have shown up in every Nintendo system since it’s inception. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption should be in stores today (Tuesday, August 28th, 2007). Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is a First person shooter where you control the bounty hunter, Samus Aran. In this game, you are contacted by the Galactic Federation to investigate the infection of main organic supercomputer system (known as the Aurora Unit) by an unknown virus. Meanwhile, Space Pirates (enemies of the Galactive Federation) are attacking a Galactic Federation base and is quickly overrunning the GF’s defences. It is then up to you and a bunch of bounty hunters to fight off the invasion as well as repair the Aurora Unit.
Though I haven’t really played any of the recent Metroid games, I can say that the graphics are well done and I’m eagerly anticipating the use of the Wiimote and Nunchuk to control Samus’ movements. If the controls are as nice as Zelda: The Twilight Princess, then I’ll be pretty happy since they were pretty intuitive and interesting to use. Plus the controls need to be smooth and accurate since it’s critical when trying to shoot fast moving enemies on screen.
I’m sure many fans will end up purchasing the game, however, it’s up to the fans and reviewers to decide whether this title lives up to the Metroid name. I recently checked on the gaming site, IGN.com and saw that they had reviewed it and gave it a score of 9.5/10 and gave it an Editor’s Choice Award. Anyhow, if you are a fan of Metroid and FPS, then I’m sure Metroid Prime 3 will be a great choice!
